Transferring an existing domain name entails switching the domain registrar that handles the registration service, so after the transfer, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS entry updates through the new registrar company. The transfer process itself is standard with most top-level domain name extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and entail different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain entails several basic procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain. The domain lock is a security feature, which is being embraced by more and more registry operators. It is a standard feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain name is locked, it will not be possible to initiate a transfer process, so nobody can even try to steal your domain name. The lock can be removed only through the account where the domain name is registered in the first place and all new domains that support this feature are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through us is really easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with our Linux cloud packages, and will take literally two mouse clicks. All your domains will be displayed alphabetically in the Domain Manager section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you’ll notice a padlock-like icon. Click on it once and you will see the current status of the domain. Click again and you’ll alter its status. The update will take effect momentarily without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup websites, so you can continue with the transfer process straight away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing your domains with us is extremely easy and the registrar lock feature makes no exception. If you have a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to administer the domain names registered through us using the exact same Control Panel via which you will administer your hosting account. For your convenience’s sake, the domains will be listed in alphabetical order and on the right-hand side you will see a padlock icon in case the given domain name supports the registrar lock feature. If you click the icon, you will find out if the given domain name is locked or not and you will be able to update this status by clicking once again. The status will change straight away and you’ll be able to initiate the transfer without having to wait for the update to be shown on WHOIS lookup websites or for us to do anything on our end.
